The Golden Pear - Hamptons, NY
Hi! We’re kicking off this coffee blog 2.0 with a coffee review from The Golden Pear in the Hamptons, NY.
Have you ever had a time in your life where you’ve seen someone and just felt the need to talk with them? You don’t exactly know why at the time, but then later it all makes sense? Well, this is exactly what happened recently when I saw Keith, the founder and CEO of The Golden Pear. Words cannot express how moving this conversation was for me, but I’ll give it a try!
For background, The Golden Pear is a special cafe for me. I’ve been coming here for well over a decade (!!!) I’ve been enjoying coffee here for years - check out my post on The Golden Pear from my old coffee blog 1.0 here, Del Mocha Vista, back in 2013!
Many years ago, when I was going through a heartbreaking break up, I moved to the Hamptons for the summer to heal my heart while I worked remotely. I would come to The Golden Pear nearly every weekend for a coffee. Sometimes I would get my coffee to-go and walk on the beach, and other times I would sit and enjoy my coffee with my Sunday NY Times (I love my coffee/paper time). I love this place. It has such a welcoming, relaxed energy. You walk in and you’re greeted by a huge menu and a table with a half dozen coffees to choose from. You pour your own coffee, and there’s always a variety of coffees to try. And if I wanted a non-dairy milk for my coffee and it wasn’t out on the coffee counter, I was invited to just grab it from the fridge, like I was at home. I love that.
“you have to be alone, and you have to listen”
So flash forward to today. We were recently out in the Hamptons for a long weekend, and of course, we went to the The Golden Pear (their Southampton location). As I was choosing my coffee, Keith, the Founder/CEO was there, and he offered a recommendation on which coffee I could try. We thanked him, grabbed our coffee and breakfast, and sat outside.
As we were sitting there, I kept getting this feeling that I needed to talk to Keith, to hear more about his interest in coffee, and how he built The Golden Pear. I went to speak with him, and WOW. This conversation felt so moving to me, there’s just no way I can accurately put into words how meaningful this felt…
Keith started to share that he’s worked with some amazing coffee experts, and has consciously chosen which coffee he serves at The Golden Pear. He then shared how his faith and spirituality have served as a compass for him many times in his business journey, helping him navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. He shared some advice that helped him. "We're so distracted right now," he said, and recommended I get quiet so I can listen to myself, and ask myself or G-d or the universe, or whoever, just ask: ‘what do you want me to do?' And listen. And then keep your eyes open for answers - like someone might call you, or you might have an experience - basically just be open to the ‘signs’.
This conversation moved me to tears, it was so powerful for me. After saying goodbye and thank you to Keith, we went to the beach and I just meditated for a little while. I started writing this blog post, the words just sort of poured out of me. I left feeling inspired to take more time away from my devices, and make more time to follow my curiosities, so here we are :)
overall rating & thoughts
You have to try The Golden Pear the next time you’re in the Hamptons! Overall, I give it a strong 7/10 rating. This place is a must-try when you’re out East. Keith, THANK YOU for what you’re building and creating, and thanks for taking the time to speak with me, I’m very grateful! And I’d love it if you would consider offering an organic roast and cold brew!
Where should I go to try coffee next time? I’d love to know your favorite coffee, and why!
This entry reads like poetry, - lovely and thoughtful. The beautiful photos adds to the feeling.
A quiet bench on the beach to heal one's heart, and to "...be alone, and ...listen."
You are relatable, connectable, understandable.
Plus my husband likes to travel, and now we have good advice on where to get good Coffee, Breakfast, and Lunch.
Thank you Welcome back Kate, 2.0!!
